Introduction Widespread
use of period instruments since the 70's of the last
century brought back the violone. At first primarily
as a 16ft
instrument, playing "contra" bass parts, more
recently also as a "12ft" in smaller ensembles
and for specific bass-parts, as in Bach's 2nd and 6th
Brandenburg Concerto.
More recently still also concertante parts have been performed
on the violone, e.g. in the Aria Geduld from St Matthews
Passion.
www.violone.nl wishes to provide a platform for the exchange
of theoretical knowledge and practical experience by players
and musicologists.
